This BTN was about the alphabet history and where it originated from. Three facts I got from the video were the English alphabet originated from Phoenician alphabet around 3500 years ago. Then the surrounding counties around the Mediterranean Sea started to use it too. Each country had to change it a little as their language needed more sounds. The Phoenician alphabet started with the letters B,G,D,H,W,Z,H,T,Y,K,L,M,N,S,P,S,Q,R,Š. The Greeks then added the vowels and the English added J and Y.

Two understandings I got were that the alphabet has been around for a long time and that we didn’t invent it. A question I have after watching it was why did the Phoenician’s have an alphabet before the other countries?

This BTN article was about how a new fashion law is being made in France. Three facts I got from the article where Italy, Spain and Israel already have laws which ban models from working if they’re unhealthily skinny. Young teenage models are being pressured to lose more weight. Now in France you have to get a doctor certificate to say you are at a healthy weight to get a fashion job. If you don’t you could get fined up to $100, 000. Two understandings I got from the article where countries in Europe are making laws like this to keep people healthy and so that other people don’t feel pressured to be skinny. They have also made big fines like that so that people will not want to break the law. A question I have is why don’t we have a law like that in Australia?

This BTN article was about the threat that North Korea gave Australia. Three facts I got from the article were if North Korea started a nuclear war t wouldn’t last very long because they have an estimate of 10 nuclear weapons compared to Americas and Russia’s estimate of 7,000 nuclear weapons. For around 40 years North Korea has regularly been threatening other countries with war with statements like the one they gave Australia and if they launched one of their nuclear weapons it wouldn’t reach Australia. Two understandings I have after watching the article were Australia is not going to get bombed and we shouldn’t worry about North Korea. A question I have after watching the video was why do North Korea even have nuclear weapons?

This BTN article was about how the world could become cashless. Three facts I got from the article were some experts now predict Australia could even be cash-free by 2020, some people say that it will be hard to live without cash like people who rely on being given cash like charities and buskers, people who don’t like technology. Another fact is some people worried about security problems and not always having internet access on their phone. Two understandings I got from the article were the world is turning digital and Australia could be one of the first. One question I have after watching the article was why are people trying to get rid of money when we have a perfectly good system?

This BTN article was about how the Australian federation was made. Three facts I got from the video where the first person to discover Australia was a Dutch explore called Ayden Tasman in 1642 came across Tasmania but moved on. Australia wasn’t claimed until 1770 when Captain James cook claimed a big chunk of and for Britain.  By the 1860’s Britain gad set up six colonies around Australia and Great Britain was the big boss. Each colony had their own defence, trade rules and their own railway lines. Two questions I have after watching the article where why did Britain set up six colonies and did each colony have their own leader? One understanding I got after watching the video was that Britain was the country that made Australia what it is today.

This article was about privet Suds and privet Thomson and how they made history for stealing a cloth. Three facts I got from the article where Privet Suds and Privet Thomson thought that a convict’s life was easy. They though that getting caught would be a good thing. That’s because convicts got assigned hours of work agreed pay rates and had land rights once there sentence was over but Frances Falls the first chief of justice made them wear chains. Frances Falls job was to ensure that the law in Australia was repayment to the laws in England. The chains meant that it was hard to walk and stand up and Privet Suds got very sick so they took him to the convict’s hospital to remove the chains but five days later he died. W.C Wentworth thought that it was an outrage that the chief had succeeded his power and it became a war cry. Two questions I have after watching the video where did Privet Thomson die and was there more than one chief? An understanding I have after watching the video was hat a convicts life wasn’t that bad if you didn’t commit if you weren’t in chains.
