Causes of Federation

We did a lesson about why Australia became a Federation. We learnt what reasons they had through primary sources (things made at the time) and wrote a either an argument or a short speech set at the time 1899. I wrote an argument and a speech.

My argument was:

I think that is the most important reason is trade because it keeps businesses running. If Australia decided to become a federation it would be easier to trade in different states and there would be no tax. there would be less smuggling because people don’t like paying extra tax and the cost of stuff would be a lot cheaper because people bringing stuff in and out state wouldn’t have to pay tax.

My speech was:

Ladies and gentlemen

Our trade system is failing to many people are paying tax to bring in supplies but putting the price to high so it is not affordable so we are not getting the food we need, People are starting to smuggle more and more and if we don’t get what we need we might need to too, to survive. But if Australia becomes a Federation we will get the things we need.

Information report

This is my information report. We were given the topic of natural disasters and I did mine on droughts.

Unit 2 reflection

This term in integrated our topic was chemistry/ changing matter. We explored physical and chemical changes and irreversible and reversible changes. We went to Mount Alexander Collage and the some of their students showed us some experiments and some demonstrations. We also conducted an experiment with a partner. My partner was Aryaveer and we conducted an experiment were we saw if oil froze and if it was reversible.

Three facts I found interesting were a chemical change is a change where there is a new chemical is formed, a physical change it is the same thing but in a different state of matter of shape like melting ice or a broken plate and when you cook it is a chemical reaction. Two understandings I have are some things are irreversible because of how they have changed and you can skip from a solid to gas and the same the other way. A question I have is any type of cooking a physical. The most important thing I learnt was an experiment is either a physical change or a chemical change.

I learnt it by paying attention in class staying on topic, joining in with conversations and finishing my work on time. I am going to use my knowledge when I get to high school and study science and use my knowledge when someone or myself wants to know the answer to a question. I think I achieved my goal because I learnt what I wanted to learn and more. I learnt that graphs and diagrams work really well and writing a science report takes time. I had a great science report with lots of detail. My partner and I worked really well and found lots of research and put in our science report. Overall it was a really fun topic and I learnt lots.

Science Experiment

In science, Aryaveer and I are doing a science experiment on freezing oil. Our science topic is chemistry/ changing matter. The year 5  standards is on our teachers blog and the rubric on what we are going to be assessed on is this document – Science-Experiment-Lab-Report-Rubric.

Aim: To see if the viscosity of oil will effect it from freezing and to observe if the viscosity will affect whether it is reversible and the speed.

Hypothesis/prediction: We predict that the viscosity of the oil will make the oil freeze at a very cold temperature and it will take a longer amount of time compared to the water. The viscosity is thick which will effect the way that it is freezes. It will melt slower because the thickness might take longer to get back to its original state.

This is a method download.

First taken out of freezer oil looks like butter

Both melting very quickly, water melting faster

Oil started melting very quickly faster than water

Oil took 22 minuets

Water took 32 minuets

Oil felt oily

Discussions: Oil is a lipids. They freeze at a very cold temperature after a long period of time because lipids can nearly stay in the same form no matter what the temperature unlike water. Lipids don’t have an significant freezing or melting point. They will slow down or stop depending on the temperature. The lipids caused the oil to freeze because our freezer was -10 degreese Celsius

Conclusion: Our prediction was that the frozen oil cubes would melt slower than the ice cubes but it did the opposite. The oil cubes melted 16 minutes faster than the oil cubes. This happened because oil is a lipid. They do not need a lot of heat to get to their back to there original state. We also predicted that the oil would freeze and it did. A future experiment we think we could do is a ice experiment we found on the internet. If you would like to look at it this is the website – ice experiment

Term 1 reflection

In integrated this term our topic was civics and citizenship. We learnt about government and how the people in the community get a say.  We did a little project on making a bill. In each group there were five or six people. In my group I had myself, Shanice, Zoe, Kate and Sasha.

There are two houses the House of Representatives and the senate. Before it is a law the governor general [the person who represent the Queen] has to sign the document. There are thirteen people that represent you in parliament, one from the House of Representatives that represent the election you live in ad the twelve people that represent your state. I understand why the bill has to pass both houses to become a law and I understand why they ring the bell in the House of Representatives. Why can’t the Queen sign the document instead of the governor general?

The most important thing I learnt is who represents us in parliament. I think that was important because didn’t know who represented me in parliament and that it is a very good thing to know . I learnt that there were two houses and that thirteen people that represents me one in the House of Representatives and that twelve people represent me in the senate. I learnt it by listening in class joining in the conversations and I watch a BTN on the senate. I am going to remember what I have learnt and think about and tell my parents about what I have learnt. I think I achieved my goals because I referred back to my goals in the term and made sure when the opportunities were open to achieve my goals I used it.

How a bill is made

we did a lesson on how to make a bill and we made a bill. if you want to know more click on this link. the lesson.

My group developed a bill on marriage equality. below is what we came up with.

The issue that were are addressing in communities is The Marriage Equality. An act to allow marriage equality

Here are some questions and answers

Why doesn’t Australia allow gay marriage when other countries do? Unfortunately there are many reasons people have proposed but we don’t know for sure.

What is the most recent vote on Same Sex marriage? In 2014 a vote was released say 80% of Australians agree to same sex marriage.

Why does it have to be that if you leave the country, have same gender marriage, then return, to be illegally married? If it is not allowed in Australia you haven’t the permission to receive an official Australian Marriage form.

What is the REAL difference between opposite and same gender marriage? The answer is simply none. They love each other the same and treat them both well.

this is our bill

The Marriage Equality Bill. An Act to Allow Same Sex Couples to get married.

Here are some reasons against our bill

We don’t need this bill though. The Plebiscite will cost way too much money from the Australian government. We need safer roads, more medical research, education funds and so much more. This isn’t even an issue concerning us. Besides kids will be picked on. Their lives do not require this interference. And it’s not just the children’s life we are concerned with. It’s their parents!  These innocent kids could be traumatised! And how awkward would it be? Mother’s Day and Father’s Day? It’s delusional!

Here are some reasons for our bill

When in an emergency you need to sign documents. Deaths, Medical, Adoptions and more. Only partners (in marriage) can sign these documents. Don’t forget the 80% of Australians who agree! How many time could you get voted into government by passing this bill? And what about the fact that’s it’s their choice? If they want to be able to have freedom you should let them.  There are 64 other places globally that allow same sex marriage.

this our improved bill

The Marriage Equality Bill. An Act to Allow Same Sex Couples to get married. It includes a ban on discrimination for same sex marriage.

Here is what i believe

I choose to strongly agree with the marriage equality bill. If this went to the house of reps or even the cabinet I strongly believe that parliament would make it a law, because if the people had to vote the statistics show that 80% of Australians agree and, if we don’t make it a law people would keep on protesting and something bad might happen between the people who agree and the people who don’t agree and it’s their choice

Here’s how i think my group worked

I think my group worked very well because we got the project done in the period of time we were given. I thought we presented it well with three very strong reasons.

Here is some facts, understandings and a question on how a bill is past in Australian Federal government

Before a bill can become a law it has to go through the house of representatives and the senate. The bill is made up in the cabinet and the Governor General has to sign the document before it is an official law. I understand that it is a very long and complicated process and that the bill is an idea for a new law or an idea to change a law. Why is it called a bill?

heat song

Heat, heat you need it for life you need it to survive.

We need it to grow, we need it to show how heat works.

Heat is a temperature you can use Celsius and Fahrenheit from colour to colour, red to white.

Heat energy is what we need have it in our lives from swimming to frying fires to heaters and sun to earth keep us warm in the terms.
